Room for everyone who matters.

The birthday that deserves more than a restaurant. The reunion that keeps getting postponed. The anniversary nobody wants to spend in a function room. Take the whole estate and let the day run long.

A twilight garden cocktail celebration at Mishika Retreat

The occasions

Milestones, reunions, and no particular reason.

A sixtieth. A fortieth. Grandparents, parents and grandchildren in one house for the first time in years. Six friends who have been threatening to do this since university. The estate does not mind which.

What it does well is hold a group without dividing it. One kitchen, one table, one fire, and enough space that nobody is on top of anybody. Twenty-five thousand square feet, and the lakefront two minutes away when someone needs a walk.

Book the whole estate and there is no lobby, no other guests, and no closing time on the bar. The night ends when your group decides it does.

Indoor & outdoor

A plan that survives the forecast.

Central Otago is beautiful and occasionally opinionated. You do not need a wet-weather plan, because you already have both.

Outside

The lawn, the garden and the creek. Outdoor dining with the Alps behind it, and a viewing deck for the part of the evening when the light does the work.

Inside

The glass-ceiling entertaining room keeps the sky without the weather. Schist fireplaces, a media room, and a bar that does not call last orders.

Between

A heated lap pool facing the mountains, and a jacuzzi. Useful during the party, and more useful the morning after.

Your chef

Wake, swim, dine. Somebody else handles the rest.

A private chef is available on request and cooks in the MasterChef-ready kitchen, which is the warmest room in the house and where everyone ends up anyway. The menu is built around your occasion, not pulled off a list.

Continental breakfast is included with every individual-suite stay. Nobody is scraping toast at seven while the birthday party sleeps in.

If you would rather cook yourselves, the kitchen is yours and it is a good one. Some groups do exactly that, and the chef comes for one night only — the night nobody wants to be washing up.

Where everyone sleeps

Five suites, ten guests.

All ensuite. Everyone stays, so nobody leaves early to drive.

Questions

The ones people ask.

How many guests can we have?

Ten stay, across five ensuite suites. For a lunch or a party the lawn, garden and entertaining room hold more — tell us your number and we will answer honestly.

Can we take the whole estate?

Yes. For a celebration we recommend it. The gate closes and the house, garden, pool and creek belong to your group alone.

Do you have a private chef?

Yes, on request. The chef cooks in the MasterChef-ready kitchen and shapes the menu around your occasion. Continental breakfast is included with every individual-suite stay.

What if the weather turns?

You move inside. The glass-ceiling entertaining room keeps the sky and loses the rain, and the schist fireplaces are lit.

Is there a minimum stay?

The whole estate carries a five-night minimum for events. Individual suites are bookable year-round with shorter stays.

Can we bring children?

Of course. Twenty-five thousand square feet, a garden, a creek and a pool. They will be fine.
